EDUCATION

PITCHBLACK Immersive Experiences offers educational workshops through Sensoteca (aka the Sensory Library) for schools and groups (In Spanish and English).

We modify the PITCHBLACK experience for the classroom by using eye masks and enhanced audio headphones to emphasize the senses of touch, taste, smell and sound.

Sensoteca offers two different plays that are combined with pre and post presentation activities, including group discussions, interactive games, crafts, and writing exercises.

These units led by experienced teaching artists offer students a unique and unforgettable way to address various important themes including community building, bullying, accessibility, awareness and empathy.

Our workshops are aligned with core objectives and curriculums.

Our Programs

These days we are surrounded by screens – overwhelmed with visual messages, content and information. With so much input, it’s easy to lose track of what’s truly important and meaningful. What is community and human connection?

What are the experiences like?

Our programs vary from 3 to 6 school visits depending on the age group and content selected.

Students use enhanced audio headphones and eye masks to listen to a story in a radio play format. The experience is amplified with sensory effects (aromas, textures, flavors).

Before the play we do interactive activities and discussions to deepen the connection between the play, the elements we use (headphones/eye masks), and the relationship between the TAs and students.

At the end of the play, participants take part in a series of activities designed to reinforce the themes of the play and align with curriculum standards and learning objectives.

These activities include writing exercises, as well as sensory explorations and role play games all tailored to the specific age groups and grade levels, inviting students to discuss the ways we perceive ourselves and others in society and the world.

Middle School / High School

Jessica loves the theater but she’s more comfortable being in the audience than on stage. When her best friend asks for help preparing for the school play, she’s happy to help but things take a bad turn. She’ll have to learn how to be brave in order to step into the limelight or the school production could fall apart despite everyone’s hard work.

Technical Sensory Effects include: Smell, Touch, Taste, among others.

Themes Addressed: Empathy, Anxiety, Mutual Respect, Inclusion, Diversity, Disability.

This is a three (3) day workshop

High School

We join Alberto, a blind musician, who travels between NY and Buenos Aires as he reconnects with his past after finding success far away from home.

Technical Sensory Effects Include: Smell, Rain, Touch, among others.

Themes Addressed: Empathy, Mutual Respect, Inclusion, Disability, Immigration, Effective Communication, Separation & Loneliness.

This is a six (6) day workshop

We are excited to work with your school, staff, educators and students!
